....this, half-century milestone......is all nostalgia....... an event that may have pioneered the concept of outdoor concerts......along with its : criticism of the gov't.........peace movements...anti-war commentary, etc..
....The folk festival was started in Newport by, George Wein.... an offshoot of his jazz festival event..........which celebrates its 55th anniversary this time around
..Guthrie introduced "Alice's Restaurant" in 1967...... James Taylor played in '69.......Dylan....in '63
...Rowdy fans crashed the gates at the 1971 jazz festival....... i was there!.....and the festival wouldn't return to the city again, until 1985.
